The General Directorate of the Ostbahn (Gedob) was founded on 26 octber 193. The headquarters was moved to Krakow in the Generalgouvernement.
The Ostbahn provided the essential logistical conditions for the murder of millions of European Jews, insofar as the deportation trains to the extermination camps in the east of the Generalgouvernement were organized and carried out by its personnel and on its route network
Adolf Gereis was President of the General Directorate of the Ostbahn (Gedob) from 1940 to 1945. In his function he was decisively involved in the murder of millions of European Jews who were deported by the Ostbahn to the extermination camps in the east of the Generalgouvernement. Gereis was never brought to justice
