The brothers, Frank L. and John W. Fenton, founded the Fenton Art Glass Company in 1905 in Williamstown, WV.  The company was among the world’s preeminent producers of handmade art glass for over 100 years.  The company is renowned for innovative glass colors as well as hand painted decorations on pressed and blown glassware.  The company ceased traditional glassmaking in 2011 and now produces glass jewelry, beads and earrings.  According to the book, Fenton Art Glass Colors, by Margaret & Kenn Whitmyer Fenton produced the compote in this color and pattern in the 1972-1980+ time period.  These pieces came with a Fenton paper label which has been lost over the years.
