This offering is for an early 20th century free blown cobalt blue glass pitcher. As I understand it the pitcher was made in the early 1900's, possibly in South Jersey, and that is is not early 19th century. A pitcher and bowl by the same hand are shown on the cover of Glass Gaffers of New Jersey by Adeline Pepper. However, evidence points to it's being of a later date than she thought, although she noted she had acquired it in 1928. The Glass Gaffers pitcher was later sold at the estate sale of Adeline Pepper at Skinner Auction Galleries in October 1991. Later the pitcher was donated to the Museum of American Glass at Wheaton Village in Millville, NJ. The pitcher measures app. 7.75" in height to the top of the handle and probably holds about a quart. The handle is applied and ends in a very nice tail. The base has an open pontil mark and the top is finished with an inward folded rim. The condition is excellent with high point wear to the base surface but no breaks, cracks or repairs.
